I've never been out of the United States - not even having lived in two border states - never. This is a sad fact and one that I plan to correct in the future. Although, the 13 months I lived in Texas almost qualifies as being outside of the U.S.
Three countries I would like to visit and why:
Norway
I have relatives from both sides of my family in Norway. Both of my grandmothers grew up speaking Norwegian in southern Minnesota. I would like to go meet relatives, experience the lifestyle of Norwegians, and learn more about the history of the country. The status of women and women in families in Norway is more equitable and respectful. When I have thought about finding a new country, Norway has been on the short list of possibilities.
Australia
I've had several students, family and friend who have visited Australia and from their stories, this is a place I would like to experience. I think the attraction is increased because the language barrier would be reduced. I also would love to visit because the weather and topography, I imagine, would be dramatically different than what I have experienced.
India
A good friend has shared with my much about growing up in India. He has had the good fortune to have traveled in many places around the world, but this descriptions of India are most intriguing to me. I imagine the smells of spices and food, the brilliant colors of fabrics, and the congestion of cars, bikes, and people. This history of the country is interesting to me, perhaps more so the emancipation of the country.
Traveling is not something that I think I'm very good at doing. I like the comfort of my own home and bed. However, I believe I lack perspective and understanding not having had the opportunity to travel. Perhaps this post will mark the beginning to achieve my goal to travel outside of the U.S.
My two cents on the world, people, perspectives, interactions, injustice, and social justice. I'm working through my questions and curiosities of where we are and how we might get out of this mucky mess and achieve a glowing, loving, peaceful community. My Two Cents welcomes your two cents as we collectively reach for interconnection.
About Me

- Penny Jo Rosenthal
- I am the Mother of two great adult children, Elizabeth 27 years, and Scott 24 years. On September 4, 2010 I gained a new son-in-law in the family - Josh. I look forward to the new adventures this brings our family! I find it difficult to be a human "being" versus a human "doing" and strive to find a peace and serenity.
